The matter came to light this morning when the security guard found the lock of the main door of the branch broken following which he informed police, Hoshangabad SP, Ashutosh Pratap Singh told PTI.
The dacoits allegedly entered the bank premises in the wee hours and cut open the locker of the branch with a gas cutter and decamped with Rs 56.40 lakh, he said.
The SP said that it appears that more than two persons were involved in the loot.
Police have launched a hunt to nab those behind the loot by sounding an alert.
