Rs.6.16 lakh seized from yarn merchant

Election officials today seized Rs.6.16 lakh from a yarn merchant near Palladam in nearby Tirupur district after he failed to produce required documents.
The officials, on a routine check to prevent flow of unaccounted cash in the poll-bound Tamil Nadu, found the cash when they stopped a car in which the merchant was travelling.
As he failed to provide supporting documents for carrying the cash, it was seized and deposited in the treasury, official sources said.
The amount would be returned, if valid documents were provided, they added.
