Rs 79.76 lakh unaccounted cash seized
Press Trust of India Malappuram (Ker) Unaccounted cash of Rs 79.76 lakh was seized today in the district, a day ahead of the Vengara assembly bypoll and two persons were arrested in connection with it, police said.
The money, all in Rs 2000 denomination, was seized from Abdur Rahimanand Siddique, both hailing from Vengara, at Kuttipuram railway station when they alighted from a train around 7.00 am, they said.
A team of police officials, as part of checks being carried out in connection with the bypoll, intercepted them and found the cash in their possession.
The duo were taken to the Kuttipuram police station for questioningand later arrested as they could not account for the cash, they said.
Vengara assembly segment, vacated by IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty to contest the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat, is going to the polls tomorrow.
