The Seraikela-Kharswan administration in Jharkhand today handed over a cheque of Rupees five lakh to a victim of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot at Gamariah, official sources said.
Seraikela-Kharswan Deputy Commissioner, Chavi Ranjan handed over the cheque to 85-year-old Gurdeep Kaur, the widow of Gurpal Singh who was killed in the riot.
Her son Harjeet Singh and All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president (East India), Satnam Singh Gambhir was present at the occasion, the sources said.
A PIL had been filed by Gambhir in Jharkhand High Court in 2013 and he had prayed for justice to the victims of 1984 riots of Jharkhand and a one-member commission was constituted on the directive of the HC in 2016.
Four days ago, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar had also handed over a cheque of Rs five lakh to the daughter of an anti-Sikh riot victim Prabhjot Singh. He was killed at Govindpur in Jamshedpur.
