"The action following the clashes in NIT Srinagar is 'intolerable'. Police lathicharged "nationalist" students and they were threatened by some local students and teachers. The students are not being allowed to put across their point before the society and the media," the outfit's secretary Atul Kothari said in the letter to PM Narendra Modi.
He said "it seems that following the incident at JNU, the anti-nationals have been emboldened. If this kind of activities is not curbed immediately, the anti-national elements in the country will feel encouraged while the nationalists will be demotivated," the letter added.
"We also demand that NIT Srinagar Registrar be suspended, action is taken against the people responsible for the situation as well as those who are shouting anti-India slogans and unfurling Pakistan flag," the letter said.
Tension gripped the NIT campus last week after India lost to West Indies in semi-final in the T-20 cricket tournament prompting some local students to rejoice and burst crackers. This led to protest by outstation students resulting in clashes.
The developments prompted the NIT authorities to close the campus on Saturday but it was reopened on Monday. The outstation students also tried to march out of the campus saying they wanted to return to their homes.
