Opposing the appointment, AISSF president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad said that his organisation will not "allow RSS's interference into Sikhs religious affairs."
Describing Singh as a "non-baptised Sikh", he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately intervene into the matter and stop BJP's "interference" in religious affairs of Sikhs.
"BJP is following RSS agenda (by appointing Tara Singh)," he said.
He also appealed the Akal Takht head Gurbachan Singh to convene an urgent meeting of all the five Takhts head at Amritsar over the issue.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), considered to be mini-parliament of Sikhs, have opposed the recent appointment.
