Former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal launched the advocates' panel after holding consultations with a group of advocates who were called for an "emergency meeting" to prepare the party's strategy to fight "repression" of the Congress regime.
The party has also launched a website -- http://akalivakil.Com -- in this connection to protect party workers against "excesses being unleashed by the present Congress government in the state".
The party high command had already decided to confront this challenge head on. A statewide 'Jabar Virodhi Lehar' is in progress which is being spearheaded by party president Sukhbir SIngh Badal and all senior leaders are part of it, he said.
Prakash spent two days -- yesterday and today -- at the party headquarters to "listen the grievances of the party workers on the vendetta unleashed against them".
"False cases" are being registered indiscriminately against our workers, he said.
In a note of warning to the government, Badal said the Akalis had a history of defying the British and fighting against Emergency and the "present government should be under no illusion that it can brow beat brave Akali workers".
