The organisational structure of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will be re-cast soon to make it more responsible and effective, its president Sukhbir Singh Badal said today.
The decision was taken during a three-day review exercise, which ended today. The exercise was conducted by the party to analyse the results of the Lok Sabha elections, he said.
The party won only four of the 10 Lok Sabha seats it contested in the recently-concluded general elections.
During the course of the three-day review, there was a consensus that SAD should form a lean organisation structure to make it more responsible and effective, Sukhbir said.
It was felt that since the district 'jathedar' (leader) and the circle 'jathedars' were the real pivots around which a political party revolved, these should be finalised by next month, he said.
Talking about government functioning, Badal said he would keep a close watch on the administration following feedback by the SAD leadership.
He said Cabinet ministers would be made incharge of one district each and they would hold meetings in these districts in the first week of every month.
He said the focus would be to root out corruption from all departments involving public dealings.
All employees posted in departments like power, local bodies, police and revenue for long periods would be changed forthwith, he said.
On the issue of high prices of sand and gravel, he said Central government policies allowed operation of only 50 out of 500 sites, due to which there is scarcity of sand and gravel and the prices have gone up.
He said farmers will be allowed to quarry sand from their fields for their personal need.
On rampant drug use in the state, he said the government will get rid of it within next six months.
