"I am told that Sambhar is a beautiful place and a beautiful lake so I suggested the CM that we must develop touristic places around the lake," Chidambaram said.
He was speaking at a function here to mark the golden jubilee of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ) and the inauguration of the 1,000th branch of the bank which is located in Sambhar town.
"The SBBJ and SBI will support the government... Let us make the place a great tourist attraction," the minister said.
Chidambaram inaugurated the branch by remote conferencing.
Known as the country's largest inland salt lake, Sambhar lies near Jaipur-Ajmer highway. It produces 1,96,000 tonnes of clear salt every year. Besides, the wetland is also a key wintering place for a large number of flamingos and other birds that migrate from northern Asia.
