NPP leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma today demanded imposition of President's Rule in Meghalaya accusing the state chief minister of having links with an underground group.
Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address in the Lok Sabha, he alleged that the Chief Minister had links with the banned ANVCB. He claimed that a letter from a senior member of the the group has exposed the links.
He said under the present government, the number of underground groups in Meghalaya have increased. Demanding the chief minister's removal, Sangma demanded imposition of President's Rule in the state.
M Thambidurai, who was chairing the proceedings, pointed out that a chief minister cannot be named and he will have to see whether Sangma's remarks can be part of the proceedings.
Sangma also expressed concern over reported moves by China to construct dams over river Brahmaputra saying it could create problems for the northeastern region and Bangladesh.
He suggested that if New Delhi can have water sharing pact with Bangladesh, it can have a similar understanding with Beijing.
