Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today sought the support of all political parties to pressurise the Centre in constituting a 'Boundary Commission', which can resolve the age-old inter-state boundary dispute with Assam.
"I proposed let us shoulder jointly and let us not dwell in blame game as there is no space for politicising this issue, which is appropriate to be taken up with the Centre," Sangma told the Assembly in his reply to the debate on the Governor's address here today.
He also said the proposal for constituting of a Boundary Commission was a resolution adopted by the House in recent years.
According to him, a single political party will not be able to take a decision on this vexed issue.
"I proposed to soon hold a discussion with all the political parties in the state on how can we carry forward to see that the resolution adopted by this august House and its objective is achieved," Sangma said.
He said the discussion will also be held with all those political parties who do not have any representatives in the state assembly as well as with all Independent legislators.
"Let us discuss on the approach how to convince the Centre to constitute the boundary commission," Sangma said.
"However, what was the reaction of Assam government is all known to us," the CM said.
However, what government felt was to re-strategize its approach to arrive at a solution which would acceptable to both the states, he said.
Sangma further said that the issue pertaining to the boundary dispute has always and will remain as one of the top priorities of the state government.
