Seeking to clear the air over speculations, Congress today clarified that its MP from Sultanpur, Sanjay Singh, continues to be a party member and will remain there, amid reports of him switching loyalties to BJP.
"There is nothing like this (Sanjay Singh joining BJP)... it is only a speculation," Congress General Secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh, said here.
Mistry said that he had had a word with Singh on the issue and the Sultanpur MP clearly stated that reports of his joining the BJP were planted.
Mistry said Singh will contest the coming Lok Sabha elections on Congress ticket and there are no chances of him going to BJP.
Last week, rumours of Singh shifting to BJP had gained further ground when he had shared the dais with saffron party leaders during his birthday celebrations in Amethi.
When asked in this regard, Singh had said that things would become clear when the candidates' list for the Lok Sabha elections are released by political parties.
"I have not quit politics...Everything would become clear once the list of nominees for the Lok Sabha elections are released by political parties," he had said.
Singh represents Sultanpur in Lok Sabha, which is close to Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies represented by Congress President Sonia Gandhi Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
On the coming Lok Sabha elections, Mistry said that deliberations on the list of probable candidates were on and soon, the task of finalising the names would be completed.
He also clarified that barring sitting Bahraich MP, Kamal Kishore Cammondo, all the other MPs would be fielded by the party.
Regarding MPs from Firozabad and Moradabad, Raj Babbar and Mohammad Azharuddin, he said both would contest from their respective areas.
