The facility will be built under the Centre's Integrated Port Development Scheme, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Chairman I Jeyakumar told reporters here yesterday.
Besides MPT, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Maharashtra Maritime Board are working together on a plan to develop the new port at Vijaydurg, he said.
The proposal is still at preliminary stage, he said.
MPT's involvement with the project comes after it kept on hold its decision to set up a satellite port at Betul in South Goa due to opposition from the local residents.
MPT, during the last fiscal, achieved 59 per cent growth in cargo handling and posted an operational surplus of Rs 169 crore, he said.
