Following his release on bail in the RTI activist Satish Shetty murder case, former police officer Bhausaheb Andhalkar today claimed he was innocent and was framed up by an officer in the previous CBI team which probed the case at the behest of a politician.
Andhalkar, arrested by CBI for shielding the culprits, held a press conference here after a court granted him and another police officer bail in the case two days ago.
The officer against whom he made the allegation of framing was part of CBI's previous team which investigated the Shetty murder case and closed it for want of evidence, Andhalkar said.
The case was later reopened.
Andhalkar also alleged that CBI subjected him to a polygraph test at the residence of one of its officers in Akurdi area of Pune and not at a laboratory, which is the norm.
Also, when he was in jail, a letter warning of dire consequences if he did not take the responsibility for the murder was sent to his Solapur residence, he said.
"The sender had threatened that if I do not take the blame in Shetty murder case, I will be set on fire," he claimed.
He was going to file a writ petition in the High Court seeking transparent probe in the case, Andhalkar said.
CBI arrested him for "conspiring with others and fabricating and manipulating evidence to shield the real conspirators and killers."
Shetty was murdered by unidentified assailants at Talegaon Dabhade town in Pune district on January 13, 2010.
