Terming the ongoing 'Namami Devi Narmade' Seva Yatra as historic, Nobel laureate and social activist Kailash Satyarthi said the entire event is a campaign to build new culture and society.
"A new culture is formed when people of every caste and religion raise issues in one voice," Satyarthi said addressing the Jan-Sanvad programme at Pansi Ghat of village Umardha of Hoshangabad district yesterday while taking part in the Yatra that entered the district on its 30th day.
Satyarthi said the Yatra, aimed at protecting the holy river, was creating "history".
"The Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has made it a people's movement. I cherished a dream that a river in India should be cleaned like Thames river of London and Rhine river of Germany. This dream will be fulfilled with Narmada river," Satyarthi said.
"Permanent changes take place where society and the government undertake work together," he said.
"Water is the reason of tension between various countries of the world today. Work against this concern is being carried out in this Yatra. Everyone will be benefited when Narmada river becomes clean," the Nobel Laureate said.
Satyarthi further mentioned that the state government has decided to undertake plantation on both the banks of Narmada river and sand will not be illegally mined.
Satyarthi also administered the pledge for de-addiction in every village situated on the shores of river Narmada and education for every child on the occasion.
