These decisions were taken in a meeting of Punjab Building and other Construction Workers' Welfare Board presided by state's Labour minister Surjit Kumar Jiyani here today.
Jiyani said that the increased rates of scholarship and shagun would be applicable from April 1, 2013.
He said the students from 1st to 5th standard would get scholarship of Rs 2,000 per annum; Rs 3,000 for students of 6th to 8th, Rs 5,000 for 9th to 12th standard and for college student it would be Rs 15,000 per annum.
Jiyani further said the amount of Shagun given during the marriage of the construction labourers' daughter has also been doubled.
The shagun amount would be Rs 21,000 instead of earlier Rs 11,000, he said.
