School teacher sentenced to life-term for raping minor

A local court today awarded life imprisonment to a teacher for raping a 14-year-old student in a school in the year 2013.
Valsad district and sessions court Magistrate B G Doshi convicted the teacher Kiran Lalu Patel under Protection of Children against Sexual Offences act (POCSO), 2012 and IPC section 376 (rape) and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on him, failing which, he will have to remain in jail for six more months.
The incident had occurred on December 27, 2013, when Patel had called the girl in the school in Kaprada taluka of the district at night and raped her, a police complaint said.

However, the villagers had caught Patel and handed him over to Kaprada police.
Prosecution in the case has sought life imprisonment for the teacher.
Public Prosecutor in the case Mita Patel submitted that the testimony of the witnesses and evidence indicated Patel's involvement in the crime.
