Science train reaches Barrackpore, focuses on climate change

Science Express, an unique science exhibition mounted on a 16-coach AC train, reached Barrackpore railway station in West Bengal today to raise awareness on how climate change can be combated through mitigation and adaptation.
The train will be stationed at Barrackpore for three days during which interactive sessions, quiz and poster making competitions will be held for school children.
The train is a collaborative initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Railway. The UK government is also helping the initiative.
British Deputy High Commissioner Scott Furssedonn-Wood said the science train is a great initiative by the environment ministry to raise awareness about climate change, which is one of the greatest challenges of our times.

The train has been travelling across India successfully for the past seven years and from October last year the train has been redesigned on the theme of climate change.
It will travel across the country for about seven months, halting at 64 locations in 20 states, covering about 19,800 km, officials said.
