The issue of delay in distribution of about 200 tricycles to disabled people was today raised in the Standing Committee meeting of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation with the councillors demanding to know the reasons behind it.
After opposition members asked when they will get the tricycles for distribution, it was clarified that the tendering process for the current year was on and that it will take another two-three months.
Intervening in the matter, leader of the House Subhash Arya raised the issue of failure of the authorities to distribute the tricycles that were procured last year. He said the tricycles procured last year were not in working condition.
"If I am handed over at least 50 of them, I will get them fixed on my own and then distribute it among those who are needy," he said.
Other councillors too expressed their willingness to do the same. "If we wait for the tender process, the code of conduct for assembly elections will come into place and nothing will be done. The officials know about this and yet nothing was done to speed up the process," added Committee Chairman Rajesh Gehlot.
Another issue that saw Gehlot berate the officials came up when Arya complained about a blood testing machine that has not been used in a Rajouri hospital since its procurement in 2007 for lack of a lab assistant.
"How is it possible that in seven years, lab assistants could not be recruited"? he said.
The committee has been assured that action will be taken at the earliest in the matter.
