Preparations for new sterilisation centres have been completed and they will soon start functioning, South Delhi Municipal Commissioner Punit Goel said.
The new centres in Bijwasan, Mundela, Nangli and Masoodpur will have a capacity to sterilise 100 dogs per day. The total number of such centres in SDMC areas will be 13 after these facilities are set up.
The Commissioner said that last year 21,000 dogs were sterilised. With the opening of four more centres, the civic body will be capable of achieving the target of sterilisation of 35,000 dogs annually.
SDMC will also procure 10 dog vans for catching them and it has entered into an agreement with some organisations for a survey of stray dogs.
The budget provision of Rs 2 crore has been increased to Rs 10.40 crore for effective control of dog menace, he said.
A software for online registration of pet dogs is also being developed to facilitate residents to smoothly register their pets, he said.
