The depression, which lay centered at 580 km west of Porbandar (Gujarat) and 440 km east-southeast of Bas Al Hadd (Oman).
It will intensify into deep depression in the next 24 hours and proceed towards Oman.
"The depression moving towards Oman is a good sign for monsoon," said Head Cyclone Warning Division in IMD, M. Mohapatra, noting that this will not have an adverse impact on the progress of the rainfall.
"As the Depression is likely to move away westwards, it would not affect west coast of India. However, the Sea condition will be rough to very rough around the Depression centre. Hence, fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea off Gujarat and north Konkan coasts during next 48 hours," Mohapatra said.
