After the pug marks being recorded in a camera, Forest department today intensified its efforts to catch the tiger by placing the carcass of a cow at a vantage point to attract the carnivore which killed three persons and has been on the prowl for the last 10 days.
Even as one of the six cameras placed in and around Kundachappai, the spot where the tiger mauled a woman to death.
The camera image of the animal shows that it was limping and drinking water from a stream two days ago while another camera recorded the movement around 9 PM yesterday with pug marks clearly visible, department sources said.
A special team today placed the carcass of the cow after some distance from the stream, to attract the carnivore, sources said, adding a pit has also been dug to catch the big cat.
A 10-member dog squad, drawn from an NGO, was made to run through tea estates, to flush out the tiger from bushes.
The villagers were bursting crackers on the border areas, every hour, to divert the animal to the spot, where the special teams were waiting to trap it, they said.
A fern house is built on a tree at the height of 30 feet and a special team is perched on it with tranquilisers and guns, sources added.
