Searing heat revived in most parts of Odisha today after a brief respite for two days with Titlagarh becoming the hottest place in the state at 44 degree celsius.
The whole of western Odisha and some other areas sizzled in the gruelling heat as the mercury breached the 40 degree celsius mark in at least 11 places, the Met office said.
Balangir was a close second to Titlagarh recording at 43.7 degree celsius, while it was 42.5 degree at Bhawanipatna, 42.2 degree at Sambalpur, 42.1 degree at Angul town and 42 degree celsius at Jharsuguda, the Met office said.
Hirakud recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7 degree celsius, while the mercury stood at 41.6 degrees at Talcher, 41.4 degrees at Malkangiri, 40.5 degrees at Sundargarh and 40 degree celsius at Phulbani town, it said.
The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar was 38.4 degree celsius and 37.2 degrees in Cuttack city, the Met office said.
There was, however, dip in temperature in many areas following a nor'wester which brought some respite to the people.
Sunstroke has claimed at least three lives in the state so far this summer with casualties reported from Bargarh, Angul and Balangir districts, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said.
