Security forces and Naxals today exchanged fire in which some rebels may have been injured in dense forests of Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The encounter took place in the forests under Khadgaon police station area adjoining Balod and Kanker districts, when a team of security personnel was carrying out a search operation in the region, about 200 km from the state capital Raipur, a senior police official said.
The personnel came face-to-face with a group of armed ultras, triggering a gun-battle between them. On finding the security personnel zeroing on them, the rebels escaped into core forests, he added.
No casualties were reported among the security forces, but blood stains were found at the encounter spot indicating some Naxals may have been injured, the officials said.
Naxal uniforms and items of daily use were recovered from the spot, he added.
