The ruling alliance partners in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena and BJP, who contested the Aurangabad municipal corporation elections in alliance, have fielded separate candidates for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor.
AIMIM and Congress too have fielded their own candidates for the April 29 election.
Today was the last day of filing of nominations.
Sena won 28 seats whereas BJP won 23 seats in the corporation election earlier this month.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehad ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) made its mark by winning 25 seats, while Congress won only ten seats. There are five independents
Sena has fielded Trimbak Tupe while BJP has fielded Raju Shinde for the mayor's post. BJP dissident Raju Tanwani too has jumped into the fray.
AIMIM has fielded Gangadhar Dhage, a Dalit. Afsar Khan will be Congress's candidate.
Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire had called a meeting to work out an agreement with BJP, but it failed as both the parties are keen on the mayor's post.
The 'magic figure' for majority is 57 the 113-member civic body.
AIMIM MLA Imtiyaz Jaleel claimed that about 10 corporators -- independents and some from smaller parties such as RPI, BSP -- were eager to back his party in mayoral polls.
