Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray today welcomed the Bombay High Court's ruling banning minors from participating in human pyramids during Dahi Handi celebrations, but also asked the court to "pay attention" to the loudspeakers atop mosques.
"We welcome the ruling of the court which pointed out that children get injured due to falling from high tiers of human pyramids. But attention should also be given to loudspeakers atop mosques," he said in a statement here.
"The ban on human pyramids of excessive heights and participation of children is alright, but we will not tolerate any ban on celebration of the festival," Uddhav said.
"There should be a golden mean between the festivities and the life threatening contest (of scaling the tallest dahi handi)," Uddhav said.
"A festival should remain just that -- a festival. Shiv Sena workers should pay attention to it," he said.
In the order yesterday, in response to a public interest litigation, High Court banned participation of minors in the pyramid, and capped the height of pyramid at 20 feet.
