A delegation of Rwandan Senators today got a peek into Delhi's heritage as they visited the 16th century Humayun's Tomb and a 250-year-old 'Haveli' in the Chandni Chowk area here.

The delegation, comprising three Senators, was led by President of the Senate of Rwanda Bernard Makuza.

They visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site and spent about 25 minutes in its premises, a senior ASI official said.

"South Korean First Lady visited the site in the evening for about 45 minutes and admired its architecture. The Rwandan delegation visited few hours before her visit and spent close to half-and-hour," the official told PTI.

They also visited the UNESCO recognised Haveli in Old Delhi where Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel hosted a lunch for them.

The Haveli is now being run as a heritage hotel after renovation.

The minister explained to the delegation the history of Chandni Chowk, built by emperor Shahjahan about 450 years ago, and the Havelis of the area.

Makuza lauded the glorious cultural traditions of India and also enquired about the various aspects of the renovation work undertaken at the Haveli.

Goel said India remains committed to deepening economic and technical cooperation with Rwanda.

The partnership between the two nation's is aimed at empowerment and capacity building of people, human resource development, access to Indian markets and support for Indian investments.

The Rwandan delegation is visiting India on the invitation of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
