Senior journalists Manoj Sharma and Sarika Malhotra have been jointly awarded the inaugural Aster Media Awards for writings that have helped create public awareness and drive action on social issues.
Sharma, an Assistant Editor with Hindustan Times and Malhotra, Senior Assistant Editor, Business Today, were chosen for the award, instituted by healthcare charity DM Foundation, which carries a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh.
Sharma won the award for a story on street children that "showcases how capacity-building among the youth can have a long-term impact" while Malhotra received it for a report on child labour, the organisation said in a press release.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony in New Delhi later this year.
