The market may remain volatile as traders roll over positions in the futures & options (F&O) segment from this month's series to September 2012 series. The derivatives contracts for August expire today.
The BSE 30-share index, Sensex, resumed lower at 17,433.50 and dropped further to 17,367.55. It was quoting at 17,394.13, down 96.68 points or 0.55 per cent from yesterday's close.
The NSE 50-share Nifty also moved down by 24.40 points or 0.46 per cent to 5,263.40 at 1030 hrs.
Asian stocks dropped in the early trade after the latest data showed Japan's retail sales declined 0.8 per cent in July 2012.
Key indices in China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan fell by up to 1.39 per cent.
Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth net Rs 143.29 crore yesterday, as per the provisional data from the stock exchanges.
