A 73-year-old female 'quack' who allegedly ran the nursing home of her deceased MBBS husband as well as an unauthorised placement agency, has been arrested from west Delhi.
Accused Dr V Mehta has been arrested for running her nursing home with fake registration number and without any medical degree, said DCP of west Delhi district police, Pushpendra Kumar.
The matter came to light when the accused treated a pregnant minor girl last month at her nursing home. The mother of the girl had accused rape by a man who was later arrested and sent to jail, he said.
On September 20, the victim girl gave birth to a baby who passed away a few days later. An autopsy on the baby disclosed the cause of death as head injury due to negligence and an attempt at abortion (medical termination of pregnancy), said the officer.
Police reached the nursing home and grilled Mehta. She pretended to be an MBBS but failed to produce any degrees or certificates saying that they were destroyed by termites.
She was running the nursing home after her husband died four years ago, the DCP said, adding, she was also running an unauthorised placement agency along with one of her sons.
