Pakistan's ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif is leaving for London tomorrow to see his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom.
Sharif will spend Eid with his wife and other members of his family in London.
"Mian Nawaz Sharif is leaving for London tomorrow evening on an Emirates flight EK-625 to see his wife Begum Kulsoom who has been under treatment for throat cancer there," a federal minister told PTI.
"After spending a week with his family the former premier will return after a week," he added.
Sharif's sons - Hussain and Hasan - and daughter Asma are already with Kulsoom in London. However, Nawaz's daughter Maryam who is active in politics and is tipped as his successor and future prime minister candidate is not going to London as she has to run her mother's campaign in Lahore.
The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court disqualified 67-year-old Sharif in the Panama Papers case on July 28.
"I have cancelled my visit to London in order to run my mother's campaign in NA-120," Maryam said. She said her mother will win the election.
"The Sharif family appears to be not trusting anyone else in the party to oversee the campaign in NA-120 in their absence and, therefore, Maryam is not going to see her ailing mother. Since Maryam is quite active and ambitious in politics, she cannot take chances to hand over the campaign to anyone outside the family," a PML-N leader said.
There has been rumours that Sharif may not return to Pakistan because he is facing corruption and money laundering cases. The country's National Accountability Bureau is going to file four references against Sharif and his children.
"To me Nawaz will not return to Pakistan under current circumstances as he will certainly go to jail in corruption cases," opposition Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf leader Aleem Khan said.
