Authorities have removed a Station House Officer (SHO) and decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of a man in firing during an anti-encroachment drive in Samba district.
"Inspector Bharat Sharma, SHO Bari Brahmana, has been shifted and attached in Jammu," a police officer said.
An SIT would be set up to probe the case in a time bound manner, he said, adding, if any officer is found guilty, necessary action will be taken against him.
"Moreover, a board of doctors has been constituted for post-mortem," officer said.
The Gujjar leaders have been assured that all necessary assistance would be provided and an FIR will be registered under 302 of Ranbir Penal Code and other relevant sections in connection with the incident, he said.
The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu has also promised all necessary assistance to the deceased's family.
Yesterday, Mohmmad Yaqoob, belonging to Gujjar community, died of a gunshot wound during an alleged attack by Gujjars on a team of JDA and police officials during an anti-encroachment drive. In the ensuing clash, 10 persons, including 7 policemen, were injured in stone-pelting.
Gujjars had allegedly encroached the land belonging to JDA in Sarore Bus stand area close to Bari Brahamana Industrial sector.
