Punjab Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today announced a world-class eco-friendly project for Harike bird sanctuary and said that it would become a state-of-the-art tourist destination.
Terming Harike Pattan a "place with top potential", he said Bharatpur bird sanctuary gets 16,000 birds and is highly rated, whereas this place gets visited by around one lakh rare species of birds but its potential is yet to be unlocked.
Sidhu, who is on a four-day tour to various tourist destinations in Punjab, reached the Harike Pattan today along with top brass of the tourism department and local officials.
The minister, who went on a boat ride on the river along with MLAs Kulbir Zira and Harminder Gill, said, "The state government is committed to turn this place into a world-class tourist destination. It has tremendous potential but wasn't unlocked till now."
Anything up to Rs 50 crore can be spent on the project, he said, adding, "This place is in the tourism circuit. In this river there is a point where three rivers Majha, Malwa and Doaba meet."
