The Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration Thursday said it has invoked the stringent Goondas Act against six persons for their alleged involvement in crimes in the district.
District Magistrate Brajesh Narayan Singh, based on a recommendation report by Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma, pressed charges under the UP Control of Goondas Act, 1970, against these persons, an official statement said.
The Act has been invoked against Waheed, Wasim and Rizwan of Bulandhshar, and Irfan, Armaan and Aamir of Delhi, it said.
According to the law, a district magistrate is empowered on behalf of the government to invoke theAct to make special provisions for the control and suppression of Goondas with a view to the maintenance of public order.
"The district administration is committed to ensuring continuous strict action against people of criminal nature. Therefore, similar action will be taken in future against the mafia and criminals under the Gangsters Act and the Goondas Act besides considering their expulsion from the district," Singh said.
Separately, the district magistrate Thursday held a meeting with senior police and administration officials of Gautam Buddh Nagar to review the law and order situation. During the meeting, Singh directed the officials to ensure check on mafia and anti-social elements on priority basis.
The district administration had on September 4 invoked the stringent Gangsters Act against eight anti-social elements and prior to that booked people associated with property dealings and real estate firms who have cheated buyers under these charges.
