Sloganeering by the main opposition Congress marred Governor E S L Narasimhan's address to the joint sitting of Telangana Legislature on the opening day of the Budget Session here today.

The Congress members trooped into the well of the House, but were prevented by marshals from going further.

They kept raising slogans against the TRS government, alleging it was "anti-farmer". Some of them tore some papers and flung them in the air.

The Governor, however, continued his address highlighting various welfare and development programmes of the government.

Opposition BJP members walked out of the house during the address.

State BJP president and MLA K Laxman told reporters later that they did so as the "false claims of the government are repeated in the Governor's address".

Talking to reporters after the Governor's address, ruling TRS member V Srinivas Goud criticised the Congress members.

The Congress is "already rejected by the people" and it was "attempting to get suspended from the House to portray the TRS government in a poor light," he alleged.

A headphone was thrown towards the podium from where the Governor was addressing, he alleged.

The Congress should participate in constructive debates in the House if it had "any logical points" against the government, he said.
