In the wake of alleged rape of two girls at a residential school for tribal children in Buldhana district, senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil today expressed concern over the "lack of security" in these schools and sought a social audit of these institutions.
Vikhe Patil, who is the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, while talking to reporters said the incident of sexual abuse of minor girls in Buldhana was condemnable.
"There have been complaints of irregularities in different ashram schools, but the government has not shown sensitivity towards the matter," he said.
According to Vikhe Patil, despite separate budgetary allocation for tribals, funds do not reach the beneficiaries.
"Students of adivasi ashram schools are facing a lot of hardships. Social audit of these institutions should be carried out," he said.
"There is no coordination between the state Tribal Development Minister Vishnu Savara and the officials in his department. The adivasis (tribals) have to bear the brunt of this lack of coordination," the Congress leader alleged.
"Savara is known for making controversial statements over the problem of malnutrition in Palghar district and the Buldhana rape case. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis needs to put him in his place," he said.
