The soyabean crop's sowing area has increased by ten per cent in India but its yield is likely to decrease due to bad weather in Madhya Pradesh (MP), which is the biggest producer of this crop, the Soyabean Processors' Association of India (SOPA) said here today.
"Soyabean has been sown in 121 lakh hectares during this Kharif season across India, out of which the crop has been sown in 67.28 lakh hectares in MP," SOPA Chairman Davis Jain said referring to the latest figures.
He said that 56 per cent of India's soyabean has been sown in MP adding that adverse weather conditions prevalent in the state will hit the yield.
Jain said that scanty rainfall during monsoon and the downpour thereafter has already ruined soyabean crop in 3.6 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh.
He said that 110 lakh hectares of soyabean was sown in India during the 2014 Kharif season, adding that the harvest was around 100 lakh tonne.
