Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh for its "failure to prevent riots in Muzaffarnagar", BJP president Rajnath Singh today said the Akhilesh government should concentrate on development of the state instead of playing vote-bank politics.

The state government should recommend a CBI inquiry into the riots and act against those found guilty, Singh told reporters after visiting some affected villages here.

The BJP president, who was refused permission to meet two party MLAs Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana jailed in connection with the riots, said the district authorities were acting on the direction of the state government.

Singh assured the people that BJP would seek justice for all and said his party had already demanded imposition of President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, Singh visited Mallikpur, Kakra and Shoram villages and met the family members of Gaurav and Sachin, who were killed in the violence in Kawal village.

He, however, did not meet the family members of another victim of the Kawal violence, Shanawaz.

Leader of BJP legislature party in UP Assembly Hukum Singh accompanied the BJP president.

The last month's communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar and its adjoining areas have claimed 62 lives and displaced over 40,000 people.
