With an eye on the I-League title after losing to Churchill Brothers in the Federation Cup final, the Sporting Clube de Goa have roped in India left-back N Mohan Raj from the recently disbanded Mumbai Tigers, according to club president Peter Vaz.
"Mohan Raj signing will be an asset to the squad who are now focusing to win the I-League title after finishing second at the end of the first phase," said Vaz, adding they are on the look out for another player before the transfer window closes.
Mohan Raj, who is just 17 days shy of his 25th birthday, said: "It is a fantastic moment in my career to be signing for the Flaming Oranje."
Raj enjoyed a very successful stint with Mohun Bagan where he won the Federation Cup in 2008, followed by the ONGC Super Cup and the runner-up title in the I-League in 2009.
He also won a hat-trick of Kolkata league titles with the Red-and-Golds.
In last season with Pune FC, Raj picked up yet another I-League runner-up medal and is determined to go one step further with Sporting.
The highlight of his career so far was the Nehru Cup triumph with the Indian national team in 2009.
Raj also proved his leadership qualities when he captained the India U-18 team that toured Germany and played against the academy teams of VfB Stuttgart, FC Augsburg and Munich 1860, before participating in the U-19 AFC Cup tournament in Iran, in 2007.
"Mohan Raj is a respected national player. He has fitted in comfortably with the rest of the squad which is very important and I feel he has the intelligence to pick up our game model very quickly," said Sporting coach Oscar Bruzon.
