Chana prices were up by 1.27 per cent to Rs 5,681 per quintal in futures trade today as traders raised their bets due to pick up in demand in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in far-month June jumped up by Rs 71, or 1.27 per cent, to Rs 5,681 per quintal with an open interest of 19,020 lots.
Similarly, the commodity for delivery in May contracts traded higher by Rs 65, or 1.17 per cent, to Rs 5,601 per quintal in 1,540 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in chana prices to increased demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions.
They said, however, the government's measures to check increase in prices capped the rise.
