DMK working president M K Stalin has written to the Centre and CBI seeking constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the gutkha scam, the party said today.
Stalin, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, wrote to Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and and CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma, seeking setting up of an SIT, a party release said.
Stalin said members of the SIT should be drawn from other states to ensure "honest" and "expeditious probe", the release said.
The Madras High court today ordered a CBI probe into the multi-crore gutkha scam, allegedly involving a state minister and top police official, besides a former police officer.
