Sarnath station in-charge Rajesh Yadav, along with constables Nepal Singh, Aftab Alam, Lalji Yadav, Santosh Kumar Mishra and Lakshman Prasad, were suspended over their reported involvement in the murder of Bhavesh Pandey (38).
Pandey was shot at multiple times by four motorcycle- borne miscreants in Mawaiyya in Ashapur on Sunday night reportedly over a land dispute. He succumbed to injuries on way to hospital, police said.
His family members held violent protests at the hospital alleging that the Sarnath in-charge was involved in the killing.
Pandey was associated with magazine 'Inside India', published from Lucknow.
On the complaint of the victim's brother Rajesh, a complaint was registered against Jiyut Pandey, former pradhan of Ashapur village, Krishna Avatar Upadhyay and Varanasi Central Jail guard Jyanendra Pandey. Krishna and Jyanendra have been arrested, police said.
