"Four persons were killed in different parts of the district due to the storm. Standing crop of maize, wheat and pulses have been destroyed in over thousands of hectares. Traffic on NH 80, 107 and 57 is obstructed as trees along them have been uprooted," Purnia District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar said.
The storm hit around 10.30 PM last night and uprooted thousands of trees and electricity supply lines in the district. Several huts were totally damaged.
The maximum damage took place at Dagarua, Dhamdaha, Baisi, Purnia and Krityanand Nagar blocks.
The storm also affected adjoining districts like Araria, Supaul, Katihar, Saharsa and Madhepura but to a lesser extent.
