Student commits suicide over Telangana issue

An engineering student allegedly committed suicide in Osmania University (OU) campus by hanging himself from a tree near the Arts College in support of the demand for separate Telangana state, police said.
Police found the body of B Srinivas in the early hours along with a purported suicide note which said that he was committing due to the delay in formation of Telangana state.
"He was not university boarder. We found the suicide note and also a notebook near him. The body was handed over to the kin of the deceased after the post-mortem," a senior police official said.
The victim hailed from Mahabubnagar district of Telangana region and was studying in a private engineering college here, they said.
Tension prevailed in the university campus as the OU Students' Joint Action Committee asked the police to hand over body to them so that all students to pay their tributes.
The police official said the situation was under control in the university and no untoward incidents reported.
Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman M. Kodandaram, state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy were among those who paid tributes to Srinivas.
Meanwhile, a day-long bandh is being observed in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh in response to a call given by TRS which accused the Congress government of resorting to repressive measures to put down the statehood rally.
Most of the educational institutions in the city remained closed. Commercial establishments, malls, cinema theatres were also shut.
