A case of 'mischief' has been registered against the proprietor of a private coaching class here after 41 Class XII students missed their geography exam due to an incorrect schedule circulated by it, police said today.
At least 41 students from a college in Yerawada near here missed their Geography exam on March 9 as they relied on the "wrong" exam schedule, distributed by Bhujbal Classes among students, along with an advertisement.
"The time mentioned in the circulated exam schedule for the particular subject was from 3 pm to 6 pm. However, as per the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary (MSBSHSE) time table, the exam for the subject was from 11 am to 2 pm," a police official said.
The office-bearers of the coaching class had visited the junior college before commencement of the board exam and distributed the pamphlets mentioning the "erroneous" timetable, which led to the confusion.
"Besides the proprietor of the class, we have also registered a case against a teacher from the junior college as he did not stop the class owner and his men from distributing the time-table and allowed them on the college premise," the official said.
They are booked under sections 447 (punishment for criminal trespass) and 426 (punishment for mischief) of IPC.
The parents of the students approached the divisional office of HSC Board here and requested re-examination. However, the officials refused to entertain their plea and said the students will have to appear for the supplementary exam in June-July.
"This prompted us to go to the police station and lodge a complaint against the proprietor of the class," said a parent whose daughter was among the 41 students who missed the exam. He has demanded that the class owner be arrested.
