However, the march that began from the Shastri Bhawan was stopped a short distance away by the Rapid Action Force and the Delhi Police. Some students tried to break the barricades.
A delegation was later allowed to submit a memorandum to officials at the PMO.
Speaking to reporters, Delhi University All India Students Association (AISA) president Kawalpreet Kaur said they were asked to wait until the budget session gets over.
"We are told that the officials are busy with ongoing budget session. We shall wait but if there is no positive response in the next 10 days we will gather again in large numbers to enter the PMO to raise our demand," Kaur said.
Kaur said, "The PM should understand that it has become impossible for the students of Delhi to survive with such high fares. He must act immediately on our demands.
