Mother of the 19-year-old biker, who was allegedly shot dead by an inspector last year, met Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi today and demanded stringent action against the cop and two of his colleagues.
Manju, mother of Karan Pandey, along with some family members also tried to meet Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in this regard but could not as he was not present at his residence.
She, instead, met Jung's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) who told her that LG's office had received the report in the case and assured that the matter would reach its logical conclusion within the next two days.
Earlier in the day, Pandey and her family had met Bassi at his office in Police Headquarters who assured them that action will be taken as soon as the magistrate inquiry report is handed over to them.
"My son was shot dead by PCR inspector Rajnish Parmar. Constable Sudarshan Kumar and Amar Singh were also present in the PCR van with him. The three are liable for this and should be punished," she told reporters after the meeting.
The family alleged that their son was killed and threatened to sit on a dharna outside PHQ if no action was taken within two days.
The family's meeting with the Delhi Police Chief comes in the wake of a magisterial inquiry into the said incident revealing contradictions in the police's version of events.
Police had claimed that Pandey, who was sitting pillion on his friend's motorcycle, was part of a biker gang which turned rowdy and pelted stone at the PCR van on the night of July 27 last year, following which PCR inspector Parmar fired a bullet which hit Pandey.
However, the report by the district magistrate have termed the police version as "highly doubtful" and said that police used "unnecessary force".
