Rajasthan High Court today sought a detailed report from Udaipur Municipal Corporation on the measures being taken by the civic body to ensure the cleanliness of the lakes in the city.
A Division Bench comprising justices Govind Mathure and Prakash Gupta sought detailed report from the corporation on the measures taken by it and the action plan, which has been chalked out by the corporation to ensure that the lakes of the city are free from any waste.
The court, which had taken a suo moto cognizance on the news report highlighting the heavily littered lakes of the city, asked the civic body to submit the report on November 27.
"We submitted a status report on Monday to the court apprising it of the measures, like removal of the residuals caused by the immersion of idols and the pre-emptive steps taken by us," said Anurag Shukla, counsel of the corporation.
Shukla said the court was also apprised of the detailed plan and its components, which the corporation is preparing.
"This plan includes making of alternative ponds beside the lakes to be used for the dumping of holy residuals, construction of toilets, a comprehensive waste management in and around the lakes and people awareness programme," said Shukla.
It may be recalled that High Court had taken a suo moto cognizance of the media report highlighting the condition of the badly littered lakes in Udaipur city.
