The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday said it had accepted the resignation of Sudhir Sawant as its Maharashtra unit convener.
Sawant, a former Lok Sabha MP, joined AAP in 2017.
In a statement, Durgesh Pathak, AAP Maharashtra observer and member of PAC, said, "This is to inform all that the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Aam Aadmi Party has accepted the resignation of Sudhir Sawant as Convener of Maharashtra State unit," Pathak said.
However, a leader on condition of anonymity said Sawant was sacked as he had failed to strengthen its base in the state.
The party had announced recently that it would contest upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls.
