Sugar prices soar on pause in supply, strong demand

Sugar prices went up sharply by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today, supported by pause in supplies from millers against increased demand from stockists as well as bulk consumers.
Besides, pick up in export demand too supported the uptrend in the sweetener prices.
Marketmen said the rise in sugar prices was mostly attributed to restricted supplies from mills against strong demand from stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers.
Sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices shot up by Rs 50 each to end at Rs 3,130-3,210 and Rs 3,120-3,200 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Dhanora, Chandpur and Malak pur climbed by Rs 50 each to Rs 3,140, Rs 3,130 and Rs 3,150 per quintal, respectively.
Prices of Dhampur, Ramala, Anupshaher, Baghpat, Sakoti, Morna and Nazibabad also jumped up by Rs 40 each to Rs 3,130, Rs 3,150, Rs 3,140, Rs 3,160, Rs 3,150, Rs 3,160 and Rs 3,140 per quintal.
