Marketmen said the rise in sugar prices was mostly attributed to restricted supplies from mills against strong demand from stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers.
Sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices shot up by Rs 50 each to end at Rs 3,130-3,210 and Rs 3,120-3,200 per quintal.
Prices of Dhampur, Ramala, Anupshaher, Baghpat, Sakoti, Morna and Nazibabad also jumped up by Rs 40 each to Rs 3,130, Rs 3,150, Rs 3,140, Rs 3,160, Rs 3,150, Rs 3,160 and Rs 3,140 per quintal.
